May Sandwiching in History: Arkansas State Capitol

Arkansas State Capitol

It's the first Sandwiching in History tour of the Arkansas State Capitol since 2001! AHPP is proud to host this tour in partnership with Arkansas State Archives Director David Ware, formerly State Capitol Historian.

The Arkansas State Capitol is a majestic domed neoclassical statehouse. By the late 1800s, Arkansas’s first State House began to be insufficient for the growing state and its government, so a new capitol was built on the former grounds of the state penitentiary. Construction took place from 1899 to 1915 and was plagued with delays, cost overruns, and scandals. Capitol Commissioner George Donaghey was elected governor in 1908 on a platform to bring the project to completion. Originally designed and begun by architect George Mann, the structure was revised and completed by Cass Gilbert. Home of the legislature since 1911, the capitol has witnessed many important moments of Arkansas state history.

NOTE: This tour will take place outdoors on the capitol grounds. We will not tour the interior. Interior tours are available throughout the year by on-site staff.

Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters

400 N. Broadway, Siloam Springs, AR

The Siloam Springs Fire Department Honor Guard invites the community to a special remembrance event: Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters.

Join us on Sunday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chautauqua Amphitheater in Memorial Park as we honor the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

This national tribute is held in communities across the country, and Siloam Springs is proud to take part. Fire departments from across Northwest Arkansas will come together as bells ring out in memory of those who gave everything to protect others.

In the days leading up to the ceremony, our local fire stations will be lit in red as a visible sign of remembrance.

We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful event as we reflect, remember, and show our gratitude to those who served with courage and sacrifice.

About Jonathan Traylor:
Jonathan Traylor signals the coming of a new generation of faith music—an authentic melting pot of Worship, Christian and Gospel influences, marked by captivating songs and anchored by a heartfelt passion for ministry.

His debut project on Motown Gospel/Capitol CMG, The Unknown, is an innovative playlist of songs and videos to be released over the course of 2020. Chronicling Traylor’s journey of blindfolded faith and ultimate acceptance in Christ, The Unknown is a worthy introduction to the singer, songwriter, and dancer who has caught the attention of fans everywhere.

About Jay Lowder:
Drawing from personal experience, Jay is committed to reaching those who struggle in everyday life. At a young age, he turned away from God and headed towards a life of destruction, eventually reasoning that his life was no longer worth living. With a pistol at his temple, Jay considered suicide; however, his attempt came to an abrupt halt when his roommate unexpectedly walked through the door.

Sensing that God spared his life to fulfill a purpose, Jay's search for truth began. After several months, this search culminated at a Sunday night outreach where he committed his life to Christ. Soon after, he attended a youth event where he witnessed hundreds of teens respond to the call to accept Jesus Christ. It was there that he realized God was calling him to spend the rest of his life proclaiming his personal faith story and helping others find God’s purpose for their life.

From that point on, Jay began his career in full-time evangelism, joining prominent evangelists as they crossed the country, speaking at church and area-wide conferences, youth camps and rallies. His contemporary style, knowledge of scripture, and passion for stories enable him to connect with adults and students alike.
